Tuolumne River Juvenile Chinook Outmigration Update                                  March 15, 2007


 February 19 through March 11, 2007, Report No. 2

Waterford:

A total of 674 juvenile Chinook salmon were captured between February 19 and March 11 increasing the season total to 1,425.  Daily catch ranged from 1 to 183 Chinook (Figure 1). Average forklength was 54.1 mm and ranged from 29 mm to 140 mm. Average weight was 2.9 g and ranged from 0.1 g to 33.6 g.

One O. mykiss (195 mm FL; 74.2 g) was captured in the rotary screw trap on February 20 increasing the season total to two.

Three trap efficiency tests were conducted at Waterford (March 3, March 5, and March 10) with resulting efficiencies of 7.1%, 4.0%, and 7.2%, respectively (Table 1).

Environmental Data:

Instantaneous water temperature taken at the Waterford trap ranged between 55°F and 58°F;  turbidity ranged from 0.32 NTU to 2.40 NTU; and flows at La Grange ranged between 340 cfs and 342 cfs.
